United States Observes 2015 National Farm Safety & Health Week

Throughout the week of Sept. 20, the United States will observeNational Farm Safety and Health Week, dedicated to promoting safe and healthy practices on farms across the country. The theme for this year’s event is “Ag safety is not just a slogan, it’s a lifestyle.” The National Education Center for Agricultural Safety at Northeast Iowa Community College’s Peosta campus will sponsor agricultural webinars for the week of Sept. 20.

Topics that will be addressed in the educational webinars include health, confined spaces in agriculture, rural roadways and tractor safety. The theme for this year’s National Farm Safety and Health Week is designed to remind Americans that working in agriculture can be dangerous. However, injuries are preventable through more education.

The third week of September has been recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week each year since 1944. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first to promote the event, and every president since has followed his proclamation.
