About UsThe Heart of Iowa Cooperative is a progressive, seven-location cooperative, serving the majority of Story and other surrounding counties. Based in Roland, Iowa, we have branches in Nevada, Story City, McCallsburg, Gilbert, Zearing, and Kelley. We focus on grain and energy services, agronomy information, and feed advice to keep our members' and their operations profitable. We look forward to being a stable partner not only today, but many years down the road... We Begin by Listening
Yes, we keep an eye on new technology as well as the ever changing worldwide marketplace, but while we're at it, Heart of Iowa provides our valued customers with the added benefit of another level of service... the old fashioned, personal kind. Always EvolvingAt the Heart of Iowa, we don't shy away from challenges in today's agriculture, so don't be surprised if we develop a unique solution specifically for one of these challenges. We started creatively confronting change back in 1972 when trains stopped rolling through Roland. Rather than relinquish access to vital grain markets, our members chose to buy land outside Nevada and build directly on the rail lines there. Two mergers and several additional purchases over the years have created an eight-location, 8.9 million bushel grain-handling and service network. Our members now share in the marketing clout that stems from the ability to load 100-car grain trains. Thanks to a strong balance sheet, the Heart of Iowa Cooperative has the financial strength and resources needed to keep our facilities current and on the cutting edge of technology. The Right People for the Right Job
Accomplishments Showcase Innovation and ServiceWe set out to abolish grain-delivery waiting lines during harvest... and succeeded! Heart of Iowa was one of the first Iowa cooperatives to setup shop online! Members can read news, check grain bids and fuel prices, even check their account balances! Our members have access to special services, thanks to two subsidiary companies--Roland Transport and Centrol of Iowa, an agriculture consulting company. In 1991, our agronomy department took an early lead in site-specific application. Our customers come first, that's why members who turn 70 start to see their equity revolve back to them. At the Heart of Iowa, success isn't measured in tons, gallons, or bushels. It all comes
down to what will make each farmer stronger and more profitable. We realize that an impressive
array of locations and equipment doesn't guarantee farmers will get what they need to prosper.
To provide outstanding service, we begin by listening,
Many cooperatives can point to an impressive array of programs and equipment. That's a given
around here. What interests us more is a long-term relationship with our customers, earned
through the qualifications and commitment that our staff exhibits daily. Our employees come
here with impressive educational credentials and real-world skills...and they stay! The average
Heart of Iowa employee has been with us for over 11 years.
