In-Field Practices
- Cover crops
- Strip tillage and no-till
- Nutrient management
There is no way to predict what farming might look like in future years, so we believe it's crucial to ensure that valuable natural resources are successfully passed down from one generation to the next. We have a dedicated Conservation Agronomist on staff to walk alongside growers and help with conservation decisions. Our Conservation Agronomist, Landon Van Dyke, will be focused on in-field practices like tillage reduction and cover crops, as well as optimizing soil health and nutrient management.
Key Cooperative is here to help farmers achieve their goals in conservation agronomy by finding the best financial assistance programs available to implement conservation practices (carbon credits, watersheds, biofuels like the 45Z tax credit, etc.), evaluating soil health and providing recommendations to boost productivity. We are continuously aware of new or refined practices and participate in collaborative efforts to help prevent regulation. With a dedicated approach and the right practices, we want to help you be successful in your conservation journey!
Key Cooperative is pleased to offer custom cover crop planting with our Crustbuster 4740 Drill. In addition to planting regular small grains like rye and oats, our drill is equipped with a small seed box for a variety of legumes. Watch the video for more details about our setup and how Key can partner with you in planting cover crops this year.
If you are interested in having cover crops drilled, contact your local Key Cooperative agronomist or Conservation Agronomist Landon Van Dyke at 641-260-2103.
Smart conservation starts with field-by-field planning. Our team is ready to help you create a strategy that meets your goals.
